Population & Satisfaction

What does approval (satisfaction) affect?

Approval is your life insurance: it decides elections, unrest and migration appeal. Health, education, security, housing, food, pollution and taxes all feed into it. Tap the number in the Population tab — every component is itemized.

How do I raise service coverage?

Each service's supply comes from buildings (hospital → health, school → education…), its need from population. Coverage = supply / need. Build more of the low-coverage service's building; an assigned minister and policy funding add multipliers.

WHERE do I build service buildings like hospitals and schools?

All in one place: Economy tab → Factories & Buildings → Service (Public) category. Hospitals for health, Police for security and housing buildings live here. Schools and universities are under Education & Culture, water facilities under Water & Waste. If a coverage bar is red, build a few more of that service's building.

How does my population grow?

Through births (service quality raises fertility), migration (people flock to attractive countries) and absorption (populations of bankrupt or defeated countries join you). Population = workforce = production; growth feeds every system.

Can I close my borders?

Yes. In the Population tab, under Population Movement, pick one of five levels: sealed, closed to migrants, selective, open or wide open. Closing cuts migration but also hurts tourism and labor agreements; opening brings workers but angers nationalists. It's a government decision, no vote needed.

Why is pollution a problem?

Heavy industry produces smog and waste; pollution lowers satisfaction and raises deaths. Treatment and cleanup facilities absorb it, renewables produce none. The Negative Resources section in the Economy tab shows who is polluting.

What are social groups and interest groups for?

Your people are not one block: workers, farmers, retirees, conservatives, liberals… One person can belong to several groups at once. Each group has a share of the population and a level of approval for you, fed by your buildings, prosperity, factory types, tourism and the laws you pass. Interest groups such as unions, industrialists, the armed forces or religious communities draw support from those groups — their clout comes from the size and wealth of their backers. Open the Society section in the Population tab and tap a card to see, line by line, what is moving that approval. These groups also shape parliamentary votes, elections and changes of regime.

What are celebrities and the state channel for?

You sign 6-month role contracts with your country's celebrities: a campaign lifts approval, a tourism envoy draws visitors, a culture envoy grows cultural influence and calming lowers unrest. Efficiency depends on the type: athletes shine in tourism, journalists at calming, actors in culture. A scandal cuts fame and ends the contract. Funding the state channel lets propaganda reduce unrest. The press regime is a trade-off: censorship silences critical celebrities but costs approval and cultural influence; a free press pleases the public and the world but amplifies critics.
